Before the Wake, directed by Sam Daugherty, is a dark comedy that blends biting humor with an intimate exploration of mortality and complicated family bonds. The story follows Martha, an aging mother determined to orchestrate her own death, and her daughter Nina, whose reluctant assistance turns into a comedic and heartbreaking series of failed suicide attempts. Through sharp dialogue and absurd yet tender moments, the film examines love, control, and the messy ways we face the inevitable.

As Second Assistant Director, I was responsible for supporting the 1st AD in managing the set’s daily operations and ensuring smooth communication across all departments. My role included preparing and distributing call sheets, coordinating cast movements, managing background action, and keeping the shooting schedule on track. I worked closely with the director, 1st AD, and production team to maintain an efficient and organized set, helping create an environment where the cast and crew could focus on bringing the film’s distinct tone to life.
